For Things

One round caught her hard in the shoulder, shattering against her collarbone. A second shot clipped her in the side. Kwynn staggered, ducking to the side and collapsing behind a stack of cargo. Her skin burned as the caustic bioweapon dissolved the flesh around the impact. She bit down hard on her tongue to stop from screaming.

She was long since out of tricks, and clear out of options. There was nowhere else to run. If she moved now, she’d leave a thick red trail for him to follow.  Without medical attention, the wounds would continue to fester until they burned through something vital.

Already, hot blood soaked through her shirt where the chemical rounds had gone through. The wet, sticky fabric clung to her skin; it felt as if she was suffocating. Holding her breath was easier than breathing slowly. Her clavicle was fractured. The lung may have been punctured as well.

No. Running was no way out. All she could do now was hide; hide and pray they didn’t find her. A quick death was too forgiving an end for an Enemy of the State.

A shadow fell over her hiding place. Kwynn’s heart stuttered, beating like a caged bird against her chest. She was sure the bounty hunter could hear every throb.

“I smell you, Malkin. I smell your blood.” Suddenly the boxes above her crashed to the ground. Kwynn pressed against the shadows, a fox cornered by the hounds.

“IS THIS THE COURAGE OF THE GRIMALKIN QUEEN?” A guttural bellow challenged.

Silence answered him.

The mercenary kicked something else; it crashed against the metal floor of the hangar in an ear-shattering cacophony. “I WAS TOLD YOU WERE FIERCE!” Another crate went flying across the hangar, colliding with a support beam and exploding like something made of plastic. “I WAS TOLD YOU WERE FEARLESS!”

His growl echoed through the empty air. “YOU’VE RUN OUT OF LIVES, MALKIN! FACE ME WITH COURAGE, PIRATE!”

He was trying to scare her. He wanted her to lose her senses. He was succeeding.

Blackness had begun to spread across the corners of Kwynn’s vision. She was still losing blood, more and more quickly. Closing her eyes tightly, she forced herself to swallow the fear curdling her senses. Breathe, Focus. Breathe. Focus. You’ll get out of this. It’s not the end. It’s not the end. Breathe.

Duox must know where she is. Even now, he’d be looking for her. Duox, Wire, Sero, all of them.

If she could only hold out until the rest of the crew arrived…

This is a short draft for a story I've been developing about a space pirate. You can see her (incomplete) character guide here: sta.sh/01rk2mjmpokw
So far it's been a private endeavor, but now I'm hoping for some feedback from other writers and readers alike. Does this story interest you? Is is something you'd like me to continue to post here on deviantArt?

This is definitely an interesting piece!
I like the tension that is created, and the way it shows the characters personalities rather than telling. Their reactions make  more sense then some I have seen.
I'm definitely interested, and if you would be alright without posting it on here, I'd be more than happy to read it!
